On June 24, a container cargo ship docked at the Jiangbei Port Wharf on the Nanjing Section of the Yangtze River. After the crew turned off the engine on the ship, all the electrical equipment on the ship stopped. After the power equipment was connected to the shore through the cable, all the power equipment on the ship immediately resumed operation. This is the application of shore power facilities.
The Modern Express reporter learned that since May of this year, the Nanjing Municipal Transportation Comprehensive Law Enforcement Bureau has begun to carry out special inspections on the operation of the port’s environmental protection facilities and the implementation of the rectification list for outstanding problems. Up to now, the Yangtze River Nanjing A total of 144 sets of shore power equipment have been built in 53 wharfs in the section, and the coverage of shore power facilities at berths has reached 100%.
The Yangtze River is the world’s largest and busiest inland waterway, and the Jiangsu section has more frequent ships. According to reports, in the past, diesel generators were used to keep the ship running when it docked at the dock. In order to reduce the carbon emissions generated when using diesel to generate electricity, the use of shore power facilities on ships is currently being promoted. That is to say, during the docking period, the ships at the port will turn off the ship’s own auxiliary generators and use the clean energy provided by the port to supply power to the main shipboard system. The Yangtze River Protection Law, my country’s first river basin protection law, officially implemented on March 1 this year, requires ships that have the conditions for shore power use and do not use clean energy to use shore power in accordance with relevant national regulations.
“In the past, container ships started to emit black smoke as soon as they docked at the terminal. After using shore power, pollution was greatly reduced and the port environment was also improved.” Chen Haoyu, the person in charge of shore power at Jiangbei Container Co., Ltd. terminal, said that his terminal has been improved. In addition to the shore power facility interface, three different types of shore power interfaces are configured for each shore-based power supply facility, which greatly meets the different interface requirements of the ship’s power receiving facilities, and improves the ship’s enthusiasm for the use of shore power. The electricity connection rate of ships berthing that meets the electricity connection conditions reached 100% in the month.
Cui Shaozhe, deputy head of the seventh brigade of the fifth detachment of the Nanjing Transportation Comprehensive Law Enforcement Bureau, said that through the rectification of the outstanding problems of ships and ports in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, the shore power connection rate of the Nanjing section of the Yangtze River has been greatly increased, effectively reducing sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter. Such as atmospheric pollutants, reduce carbon pollution emissions, and noise pollution can also be effectively controlled.
A reporter from Modern Express learned that the special inspection of “Looking Back” showed that the dust control of the bulk cargo terminal has also achieved significant results. Take Yuanjin Wharf as an example. The wharf is implementing belt conveyor transformation. The transportation mode is changed from horizontal vehicle transportation to belt conveyor transportation, which improves operation efficiency and greatly reduces bulk cargo throwing; stacker operations are implemented in the yard to reduce dust during operations. , Each storage yard builds a separate wind-proof and dust-suppression net, and the dust-proof and dust-proof effect is significantly improved. “In the past, grabbing was used for loading and unloading operations, and the dust problem was particularly serious. Now it is conveyed by belt conveyors, and now the terminal is no longer gray.” said Zhu Bingqiang, general manager of Jiangsu Yuanjin Binjiang Port Port Co., Ltd.
